Connection, not a checklist

"I believe that growing older should never mean growing isolated.

Somewhere along the way, it might be because a partner passed, someone handed in their drivers license or family moved away, many seniors quietly step back from the life they once loved. This might include the café they visited each week, the park they used to walk around or the simple joy spending their day with someone who genuinely wants to be there. I started Golden Days to change that. 

Established and operated live right here in Canberra, Golden Days is run personally by me. There are no rosters of rotating staff and no call centre. When Golden Days visit clients, we are not checking boxes or watching the clock. We are there to sit, listen, learn the stories that matter to our clients and share in their day as a friend would.

A visit might mean a cup of tea and a long conversation about someone's life, their childhood, their work, the places they have travelled. It might mean a slow walk through the garden, a game of cards, or simply quiet company on a Tuesday afternoon. Every visit is shaped entirely around each client.

Many of the families I work with live interstate or are simply stretched thin with busy lives here in Canberra and are unable to visit as often as they would like or just think Mum or Dad should have a different friend outside of the family for company each week.

After every visit, I send a personal update to families, to ensure that even from a distance, they know that their loved one had a good day have an idea of what the visit entailed. Families says this email is the thing that helps them feel close, even from a distance."
